If you're in Winnipeg and looking for authentic Ethiopian food, this is the place you have to go! Or, if you're looking for a great vegan restaurant, this is definitely the best place on my list.

It's great for groups with round tables and traditional large sharing plates. It's great if you're just going for a date because the service is marvellous and the atmosphere is very inviting.

This place is also licensed so you can have a drink with your meal. There is only street parking and the area tends to get busy, so be prepared to walk a block if you can't find a spot out front.

The food is delicious and I always get the combo platter. Huge portions and priced well. The owner Desta is a awesome person and a gracious host. Decor is an African theme and inviting.

This restaurant is a hidden gem on Sargent Avenue. We learned about it through a community newspaper article on the owner, Desta, who was recently awarded the YMCA Peace Medallion for her charitable works locally and in Ethiopia. With a owner who has such a big heart, we just HAD to check this place out!

The inside of the restaurant is warm and welcoming, and very clean.

Desta both serves and cooks -- we went around 4 pm, so it was a quiet time.

Our order included both the meat and vegetarian platter. Food comes out promptly. What really wowed me is how distinct the flavour was for each dish, which is not always the case at other places we have tried. Even for two committed eaters like ourselves, we left very satisfied and had yummy leftovers in the fridge for the next day.

The coffee is a must -- Desta roasts and grinds each cup. It is a beautiful ritual to watch, especially when she walks around the restaurant so we can smell the roasting coffee. The coffee itself is rich, dark, and delicious. Order at the beginning of the meal, so you can cap your experience with this satisfying beverage.

This is my new favourite Ethiopian restaurant in the city. We will be back a lot!
